Our stay at Bali House & Cottage – Big Island of Hawaii
On our last and very first trip to the big island of Hawaii, my wife and I had the pleasure of staying in the beautiful Bali House & Cottage on the Hilo side of this huge and diverse island in paradise.
First, watch the excellent short video of this unique rental house and cottage opposite the very popular Kehena Black Sand Beach.
Be sure to turn on your speakers and enjoy traditional Hawaiian music while watching! 🙂

The beautiful Bali House & Cottage on Kehena Beach
In recent years we have traveled to Hawaii from the west coast of Canada several times. It is quick and easy to get to and offers cheap flights all year round.
This was our first visit to the largest island in the chain and it was amazing!
Hawaii Island is huge and the largest of the Hawaiian island chain with an area of well over ten thousand square kilometers. The drive across the entire island takes approximately 300 miles, so you have an idea of how big it is.
This is an active volcanic island where you can experience the Volcanoes National Park, where two active volcanoes are named. Kilauea and Mauna Loa.
What surprised me the most when I visited this island was how diverse each region is, with immensely different terrain and ten different climate zones that you can experience.
Really unique and different from any other Hawaiian island.
The Bali House & Cottage location
There are six unique regions on the Big Island and I strongly recommend that you experience them all at some point during your stay. From Hilo and Puna on the east side to the very popular regions of Kona and Kohala on the west side, you are sure to find one that is ideal for you.
Bali House & Cottage is located in the remote and unique Puna region of the island. This region is on the Hilo side of the island and about a 45-minute drive south of the city.
A very calm and varied area, where you will find lush vegetation, rainforests, volcanic fields and a very rough, spectacular coast.
The Bali House is located directly opposite Kehena Black Sand Beach. This is a small but very popular beach with optional clothing on the island that welcomes everyone of all ages with or without swimwear.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Ahalanui Park (large open thermal ponds), popular outdoor markets and much more are all easily accessible by car.
If you enjoy peace and serenity, distance yourself from the main tourist areas of the island and want to listen to the hundreds of Coqui frogs in the middle of the dense vegetation at night, you've come to the right place!

Tastefully decorated, this holiday home is perfect for those who are looking for a quiet, relaxing and romantic getaway.
My wife and I spent an excellent week at Bali House and saw all the attractions and sights of the Big Island of Hawaii. You definitely need to rent a car if you stay on this island to get around easily and see the different regions of the island.
Each region is special in its own way and we loved visiting each one during our stay.
So get off the beaten path, step out of the box, and enjoy so much more of what Hawaii Island has to offer, except for the fabulous white-sand beaches that all tourists flock to.
Don't get me wrong, we loved the beaches on the Kohala coast, but visiting and staying on the other side of the island is unique and very special in what this part of the island has to offer.
The opportunity to stay at the Bali House & Cottage made our visit all the more special.
Below I have listed the official Bali House and Cottage website where you can access much more detailed information, including prices and contact information.
